There has been a lot in the news recently about the nol minimum top up amount being increased to 20 dirhams – meaning that the minimum you can add to your nol card is that amount. However, this is not entirely true as we explain below.
The minimum top up for your nol card has been changed, with effect from 15th January 2024, to 20 dirhams only when you top up at a ticket office – these are located inside the metro and bus stations and have an attendant working in them.
But if you want to top up at a ticket machine or using the nol payment app then you can top up lower amounts – in fact the lowest top up that you can do at a ticket machine is 5 dirhams. When topping up, you can choose the amount or else select your own figure.
There isn’t really any need to top up at the ticket office unless you are there to ask questions anyway, but if you do try and do that, just remember that you will need to top up by 20 dirhams.
You should remember though, that the minimum balance required on your nol card in order to travel is 7.50 dirhams, so make sure you have this amount of you will not be able to pass through the barriers and travel.
