Where Will the Dubai Metro Blue Line Go?

Last month it was announced that tenders were going to be invited for the expansion of the Dubai Metro which would create a blue line in addition to the existing red and green lines. In the past there have been proposals for not only a blue line but also gold, pink and purple lines. Initially the RTA are just looking for expressions of interest in tendering for the expansion so the process will be reasonably long to actually get the line built. But where will the Dubai Metro blue line go?

There have been proposals in the past about the route of the blue line but these currently seem too long for what is being proposed now.

We have looked at the small amount of detail that was included by the RTA in their announcement and it seems to us that the original route of the blue line does not correspond with those details.

The information we have is that the blue line will be 30km long. It will pass through both Centrepoint metro station (which is at the end of the red line) and Creek metro station which is at the end of the green line. It will have 14 stations.

Using those pieces of information we can check the distance between Creek and Centrepoint and this is approximately 5km as the crow flies. We have looked at a route that goes from Centrepoint to Creek and then onwards but this would not cover Mirdif and Al Warquaa so we propose a route that starts at Creek and then goes to Centrepoint. That is 5km approximately so then leaves another 25km of blue line to account for.

We think it is likely that the blue line will go through International City

If the line then heads on to Mirdif and Al Warquaa it can then go to International City.

Previous information implied that the blue line would go to International City (which would make sense due to the number of people living there and the likelihood that they would make use of the metro) and we think that is highly likely.

It could then go through Silicon Oasis/Academic City (another 6km approximately).

This would leave 9km which would take you to Global Village but not quite as far as Arabian Ranches which may be a bit disappointing to those living there. However, our measurements are not 100% accurate so possibly it might go that far.

Obviously this blue line route is pure speculation on our behalf and it could be completely different but we were interested to see where it might go and will await announcements to confirm further details of the stations.
